
IEC 60034-30 Energy Efficiency
News
Description.
The IEC has introduced a new standard regarding the energy efficiency of electric motors asynchronous three-phase, the standard IEC.60034-30: 2008, which defines three classes of efficiency:
IE1 = Standard Efficiency
IE2 = High Efficiency
IE3 = Premium efficiency
The efficiency levels defined by this standard are based on measurement methods set out by the IEC60034-2-1: 2007 and apply to the standard three-phase induction motors with the following characteristics (see IEC60034-30_2008 point 1)
• Rated voltage up to 1000V
• Power from 0.75 kW to 375kW
• 2 - 4 - 6 poles
• Frequency 50 to 60Hz
• Service S1 and S3-80%
Motors with the following characteristics are excluded from the scope of standard:
• Fully integrated in machines (eg. Monoblock pump or blower) to which it is not possible to independently test the energy performance of the device.
• Specifically designed for variable speed according to IEC 60034-25
• Single phase motors
Application Timeframe.
From June 16, 2011 all motors on the market satisfying the requirements mentioned above must have a minimum level of efficiency IE2
From January 01, 2015 motors with a power exceeding 7.5kW must have IE2 or IE3 or if the motor is driven by a frequency converter.
Impact of DVP products.
The new standard does not apply to all DVP products but only to those that use three phase motors coupled through a flexible coupling.
In practice pumps with single phase motors, side channel blowers, pumps with three-phase motor of less than 0.75 kW are excluded from this standard.
The voltage of the motor that complies with IEC60034-30 can not be wide as that of TN series. In fact, the typical IE2 voltages (TX Series) are:
230/400V ± 10% 50Hz
265/460V ± 10% 60Hz
So the motors of the series TA, TS, TN will be phased out of production.

So the products that are exported to these countries will have to submit to the norm locally implemented with regard to the efficiency of electric motors.
